Introduction to the New Main Hall (1F)

The new main hall at Miaoyun Temple is designed according to the principles of Humanistic Buddhism, emphasizing religious cultivation and humanistic education while integrating the practical needs of monastic life. Grounded in the Threefold Training of ethics, concentration, and wisdom as the foundation of Buddhist practice, the new main hall reflects Master Yin Shun’s aspiration: “May I, life after life, be born into this suffering human world, and dedicate myself to bringing the voice of awakened wisdom to humanity.”

At the center of the new main hall, a majestic statue of Shakyamuni Buddha sits in solemn serenity. Finely carved from a thousand-year-old camphor tree, the statue is set against a backdrop of bodhi leaves, symbolizing the pure and sacred realm of perfect enlightenment attained by the Buddha beneath the Bodhi tree.

Flanking the Buddha are two Dharma protectors, masterfully carved from century-old Taiwan cypress: Weituo Bodhisattva on the right and Chialan Bodhisattva on the left. Together, they stand watch over the Temple, safeguarding the peace and tranquility of this sacred space.

Hanging inside the hall is a calligraphic couplet by Master Yin Shun: “The wondrous Dharma reaches all and benefits every being; as clouds part and light shines forth, it illuminates the entire universe.” The couplet expresses the boundless reach of the Dharma and its compassionate light, shining throughout the vast universe.
