About Miao-Yun Aranya

In 1964, Master Yin Shun entered retreat at Miaoyun Temple in Chiayi. Today, among the four major Dharma centers he founded, it is the only one where the original building has been preserved as a museum. Here, visitors can gain a sense of the simple way of life and spiritual character of this eminent Buddhist master.

On May 26, 1964, Master Yin Shun entered his retreat quarter and devoted himself wholeheartedly to Buddhist study and practice. Although his retreat lasted only one year, this period marked a key stage in his lifelong quest to discover the Buddha’s original teachings from 2,500 years ago. It also became closely associated with the Miaoyun Collection, one of the most significant bodies of work in his life and one that profoundly influenced Buddhism in Taiwan. This period marked an important turning point in the development of his vision of Humanistic Buddhism in Taiwan.
